Report on Career Guidance Session
The Department of Biotechnology under the DBT star college scheme organized a 'Career
Guidance Session' for the students of the Department on 7th May 2022. The resource persons
were Ms. Glorita Fernandes, Teaching and Research Assistant, NFSU, Goa and Mr. Lino
Cardoz, Assistant Manager, Cactus Communication Pvt. Ltd., Mumbai.
The compere Ms. Anjelica Matias, welcomed the resource persons and the audience. Ms.
Crisella Fernandes, a third year biotechnology student introduced the resource person Ms.
Glorita Fernandes for the first session. The talk was titled “Career in Forensic Sciences” and
highlighted its eligibility criteria, scope and applications. The session was interactive , as the
audience could relate to the CID television series and reality of the science. Ms. Glorita
Fernandes spoke about crime scene investigation, forensic photography, forensic biology and
DNA fingerprinting, etc. The students were encouraged to opt for specialized fields as a career
like cyber forensics and information security, forensic psychology, wildlife forensics etc. The
talk ended with a question & answer session.
Ms. Anjelica thanked the resource person and Mr. Golan Fernandes introduced the second
resource person for the day Mr. Lino Cardoz. The talk was titled ‘Careers in scientific writing’.
He spoke about the importance of writing and publishing research articles at undergraduate
level. One needs to have total commitment, zeal and must work hard to achieve the goal of
publishing research articles. Scientific writing as a career also allows students to opt for full
time work or as a freelancer. The talk ended with a question & answer session. Ms. Anjelica
then thanked the resource person for his detailed and informative talk.
The Winners of the Research Paper Presentation competition were also felicitated at this event
by the resource persons. As a token of appreciation, the resource persons were presented with
Euphorbia potted plants.
Finally, the vote of thanks was given by Ms. Anabel Alphonso, co-ordinator of the
Department of Biotechnology.
