Co-ordinator's address
I am delighted and honoured to be writing this note on behalf of the department of Biotechnology.
At the very onset I would like to thank the Editor of the newsletter Ms. Anjelica Matias and her
editorial team for their diligent and creative compilation of this newsletter. I would also take this
opportunity to thank our Principal Dr. Blanche Mascarenhas and our Administrator Fr. Antonio
Salema for their consistent support to the Department of Biotechnology.
The department has always been very dynamic, attributing to the cooperation and contribution of all
my colleagues and I hope that this newsletter corroborates this aspect, while also showcasing all the
activities and achievements of the department of Biotechnology.
It is with the deepest gratitude that I would like to use this platform to officially thank the
management for apportioning a generous amount of space for the Department of Biotechnology in
Block E. The new premises comprise of well-equipped, independent laboratories and classrooms
that have greatly enhanced the teaching and learning process.
The past two years of the pandemic have been a challenging time for the entire teaching community.
Owing to this, our departmental activities were put on a back burner as we all prioritized our health.
However, as we all eased back into our routine last year with major restrictions being lifted, we were
fortunate to receive the DBT Star college scheme which gave us the much-needed stimulus that we
needed to give our students better scientific exposure in terms of study trips and the improvement of
our facilities. The activities that we conducted under the DBT scheme are well documented in this
newsletter which provides a wonderful insight into the
accomplishments of our department.
To quote Earl Nightingale “Creativity is a natural extension of our Enthusiasm”. This newsletter is
a culmination of creativity and science and we hope it gives all the readers a glimpse into the
alluring world of Biotechnology.
