FIELD TRIP TO CIBA
On 6th April 2022, 18 students with 2 teachers of St. Xavier’s College went for a trip to CIBA
(Centre for Incubation and Business Acceleration) with an aim to find out about how they
help entrepreneurs with their start-ups and what a business plan entails. We arrived there at
11:45am. We planned to attend two sessions, one on the topic of the institute and the other on
creating a business plan.
The objectives of the trip were to get to know how the incubation center helps entrepreneurs
with their start-ups, what are the facilities provided by them and to learn about the
components of a business plan. We were seated in the auditorium. The speaker for the day was
Mr. Sanjay Mulri who is the head of the Seed fund and incubation. He showed us a
presentation describing their technological business incubators which is based in Goa and
Mumbai, that supports and nurtures the start-up companies by providing services such as
incubation, modern office spaces, mentoring, networking opportunities, seed funding and
rapid prototyping. He informed us about various start-ups like Spintly, Protinum that received
huge amount of funding and grants with their help. He also mentioned and gave detailed
explanation of terms like IPR support which is Intellectual Patent Rights etc. They also provide
legal compliance and product development consultancy. He ended the session by informing us
about how to apply for their help when we initiate our own start-ups.
The second session was about formulation of a business plan, he explained to us the business
model canvas which consisted of 9 segments - customer segment, value propositions, channels,
customer relationship, revenue stream, key activities, key resources, key partners and cost
structure. He explained these segments with the example of Swiggy. At the end of the session,
he gave us a small activity to propose a business plan and submit it to our teachers. Through
these sessions we learnt about the various aspects of the start-ups that were managed by them.
We received information on how to make a business plan. The conduciveness of the
environment at the incubation centre helped us to learn about the various steps involved in
receiving funding and product development which would help students to apply in the future
for those who are interested in starting up a business.
Our trip ended at about 1:15pm. The trip was successful and we believe that our objective was
achieved. We learnt something new and beneficial for us.
