Ph.D. Admission February 2024

Admission to the Ph.D. Programme offered at Goa University and its Research Centre shall be conducted in February, 2024 only for those candidates who are eligible for exemption from the Entrance Test in accordance with the provisions of Ordinance OA-40 and those candidates who have cleared the Goa University Ph.D. Entrance Test (GU-PET) conducted in August, 2022 and August 2023. A copy of the Ordinance is available on the University website.

Principals/Directors of Affiliated Research Centres are requested to submit information on the number of vacancies to be announced for admission in the format Annexure I(in excel) to Assistant Registrar (Academic-PG) on or before 16th February, 2024 through Email at admissionphd@unigoa.ac.in

In respect of Cluster Research Centres, the Principals of Colleges are required to provide the information on the number of vacancies through the proper channel that is through the Head/Co-ordinator of respective Cluster Research Centre.

Those Research Guides having designations other than Assistant Professor/Associate Professor/ Professor are requested to provide Grade Pay/Level as the case may be along with designation.

The following may be taken into consideration while submitting the data:

1. As per Ordinance OA-40.2.ix, the number of students that a Professor, Associate Professor and Assistant Professor (or their equivalent positions) can supervise shall be 8, 6 and 4 respectively.

2. Recognized Research Centres/Institutions are required to have a minimum of two recognized Guides in the respective subjects to be eligible to supervise students.

3. Research Centres at affiliated Colleges must be offering the Post Graduate Degree Programme in the concerned subject to be eligible to offer the Ph.D. Programme.

(a) Research Supervisors shall not be permitted to register new Research Scholars if they have only three years to superannuate. However, they may continue supervising Research Scholars who are registered under them until superannuation and co-supervise after superannuation up to the age of 70 years.

(b) The responsibility of the Research Supervisor to supervise her/his students shall cease on the day of her/his superannuation. In such cases, a Co-Supervisor shall be appointed at least six months before the superannuation so that the Co- Supervisor can assume the responsibility of Research Supervisor for the Research Scholar.

(c) A recognized Research Supervisor can become Research Co-Supervisor only if vacancies are available under her/his prescribed quota as specified as per Ordinance.

5. All recognized Research Institutions shall have to provide an undertaking that the Guide/s will be available in Goa to guide the students during their entire period of research.
