The Department of History founded in 1963 is among the oldest academic department of the college. Presently, it offers papers prescribed by the Board of Studies for the Undergraduate Level under the CBCS since 2017-2018. Students also undertake a ‘Project’ in Semester V and Semester VI guided by the faculty. The History section of the library has a good collection of books for reading and reference, along with journals, for the use of students. In order to provide opportunities for developing their talents and furthering their interests in the subject, the Department, organizes history related events in HISTORYONICS, an event of the department that include quiz, role plays and such related activities. Guest speakers are also invited to address students. Students have opportunities to participate in inter-collegiate competitions. Students are taken to historical sites, museums and galleries to acquire practical knowledge of the subject. The academic performance of the Department at the University examinations has been impressive. Students of History have career avenues in Journalism and Mass Media, Law, Civil services, Teaching and others.
