Established in 1994, the Department of Computer Science began its journey with a single laboratory featuring ten computers running on a Novell Netware LAN. Since the graduation of its first B.Sc. batch in 1998, the department has grown significantly. Today, it boasts two full-fledged, well-equipped laboratories supported by online UPS systems, high-speed internet connectivity, and Network Attached Storage (NAS). The infrastructure is further enhanced by Smart Boards and the implementation of Microsoft Edu-Cloud solutions alongside popular Linux distributions. By consistently integrating platforms like Microsoft Teams, the department has elevated the learning experience, ensuring students are well-prepared for the modern digital workspace.

The department maintains a vibrant academic environment through webinars, hands-on workshops, and training programs on emerging technologies such as Web and Mobile Technologies, Network Security, the Internet of Things (IoT), Docker etc. Our alumni contribute significantly as resource persons, bridging the gap between academia and the IT industry. To further impart industry-relevant skills, we offer Value Added Courses in areas like React, MS-Excel Analytics, Power BI and NotebookLM

Key annual highlights include a Student Symposium for peer learning and an exhibition during National Science Day, where final-year students showcase their projects to visiting school students. The department also organizes “Exabyte,” a signature annual IT event, and conducts field trips to prestigious institutions Goa Institute of Management and Goa University. Furthermore, the department tracks and shares its progress through its official e-newsletter, “Compiler.”

The job prospects after completing this degree are numerous. Students graduating from this department are either pursuing their studies or are placed in software companies, academic institutions. Our graduates take up employment as Software Engineers, Network Administrators, Consultants, Web Developers, Desktop Publishers, Data Analysts etc

My time at St. Xavier’s College, Mapusa, where I pursued my BSc, has been one of the most defining phases of my life. The college provided me with a strong academic foundation while helping me grow in confidence, discipline, and perspective. The third-year project and practical sessions, in particular, gave me valuable hands-on learning and real-world exposure that significantly shaped my technical skills. Alongside academics, the vibrant campus life, filled with numerous events and activities, helped me develop teamwork, creativity, and leadership.

I am especially grateful to the faculty, whose constant support, guidance, and encouragement were instrumental in my journey. Their dedication went beyond academics, inspiring me to think critically and strive for excellence. Today, as a Software Engineer, I carry forward the values and lessons I learned during my time at St. Xavier’s, and I remain thankful to my alma mater for setting me on this path.
