Electronics

Department of Electronics

Vision:

The Department of Electronics is committed to provide to the student’s, quality education to create an effective teaching-learning environment.

Mission:

To provide a theoretical foundation blended with practical training and to inculcate values for the overall development of students.

St. Xavier’s College, Mapusa, was the first institution in Goa to introduce the B.Sc. Electronics program in June 1996, under the affiliation of Goa University. The department is led by a dedicated team of three Associate Professors and two Assistant Professors, with one faculty member holding a Ph.D. and two others actively pursuing doctoral research. This blend of experience and ongoing scholarship ensures that students are mentored by educators deeply engaged in both teaching and research.

In 2021, the department, along with other undergraduate science departments, was recognized under the DBT Star College Scheme, which has significantly enhanced student exposure through hands-on training, workshops, and upgraded facilities.

Today, the department offers one fully equipped software laboratory specializing in embedded systems, Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), Internet of Things (IoT), and computer networking, as well as two hardware laboratories focusing on biomedical instrumentation and electronic communication. These facilities are supported by smart boards, UPS backup, and high-speed internet connectivity.

The B.Sc. Electronics program at St. Xavier’s College provides a strong foundation in electronic devices, circuits, microprocessors, microcontrollers, communication systems, instrumentation, power electronics, embedded systems, IoT, robotics, biomedical instrumentation, and computer networking. The curriculum integrates theory with practical laboratory work, software tools such as MATLAB, Python, PLC, and Arduino, along with industry exposure through internships and projects. The program equips graduates with skills in design, programming, automation, and system integration, making them versatile across multiple domains. Students gain hands-on expertise, coding proficiency, and practical exposure, enabling employability in both traditional electronics industries and emerging sectors such as IoT, AI, and robotics, while also being well-prepared for higher studies and global careers.
